Sea Sky Cargo Services: King of the Mountains

The Kingdom of Nepal is a landlocked nation in South Asia, bordering the People's Republic of China to the north and India to the south, east and west. The Nepali landscape is extremely diverse, ranging from the humid Terrai in the south to the high Himalayas in the north, being the highest mountain range in the world. Nepal boasts eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including Mount Everest. With terrain that ranges from hilly to mountainous in the northern two-thirds of the country has made the building of roads and other infrastructure both difficult and expensive. There are just over 4,000 km of paved roads, and one 59 km railway line in the south of the country. Nepal is can be a transport headache.

Unless you have the right partner, that is…

The Global Project Logistics Network is very lucky to have Sea Sky Cargo Service as our member in Nepal. Sea Sky Cargo Service is one of the very few companies in Nepal that is specialized in all facets of project cargo, whether the shipments be for Nepal, Bhutan, or even the border areas of Northern India. “No matter how complex, far, heavy, huge your projects may be, we will take it there,” assures Mr. Pankaj Raj Sharma, the man who founded Sea Sky Cargo Service in 1988.

And they do.

Nepal Electricy Authority recently needed transnational transport of five power transformers weighing 30 tons along with 45 containers of gear needed to be transshipped in India at Kolkata port then transported overland internationally to a location nearly three thousand meters above sea level along roads with very steep inclines. For ABB Transmit Oy (Finland), this 132 kv T/L power project was a high profile USD 14 million job which needed the kid glove treatment. Sea Sky Cargo Service handled this job professionally!

Sea Sky Cargo Service also recently handled an Bhutan job in a world class manner, transporting 2500 freight tons of road construction and maintenance equipment ex-Kolkata port to the Hesothanngka Regional Workshop for the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, Wangdue Prefecture in Bhutan. This was for Itochu Corporation of Japan. The steep movement over the rugged mountains would be enough of a task, but this job was made much more difficult by the fact that there are only three paved roads in all of Wangdue Prefecture!

Sea Sky Cargo Service have proven themselves time and again as a good partner for the Nepal / Bhutan area for the oversize, out-of-gauge cargo shipments. Be sure and call on Pankaj when you need services to this area, from site and road surveys, total transport, lifts, and clearances.
