Celtic Successfully Manages Smurfit Boiler
Transport to Argentina for Smurfit

“Celtic Forwarding Works with Smurfit on Three Continents to Complete the
Job”
Dublin, Ireland, October 4th, 2005 – International paper and corrugated
boxes giant, Jefferson Smurfit Group (Smurfit), finds that Celtic Forwarding
has what it takes to get a successfully coordinate the move of a 55 ton boiler,
with dimensions of 6.05x4.20x4.70m, from Ireland to Argentina. But the job
wasn’t nearly as straightforward as it sounds. “This was a very unusual
shipment from many aspects,” said Ken Behan of Celtic Forwarding, “we had
the original lead on this from Spain, the party controlling the shipment was
in Miami, the shipment was in Dublin but went out via a port in Cork at the
opposite end of Ireland. There was a lot of coordination, but we got the job
done beyond expections. We always go the extra mile.”
The boiler moved at night time overland from Clonskeagh in the Dublin area
to Cork in the southwest of Ireland where it was loaded on a Grimaldi feeder
and then shipped from Cork to Buenos Aires via Antwerp. A separate shipment
of 3x40’ open top containers containing the boiler’s conveyor system being
shipped to Buenos Aires directly from Dublin’s port.
Smurfit is a diverse group of corrugated packaging companies currently with
operations in Europe, North America and in South America. On September 13th,
2005, Smurfit announced they are to be undergoing a merger with Kappa
Packaging, which, once successfully completed will bring them to a total of
operations in 23 European countries and 9 Latin American countries. This
would increase Smurfit’s international trade dramatically. “In the past
Smurfit had trusted Celtic Forwarding with some overland movements within
Europe,” says Behan, “but this is the first time that we have gotten the
chance to move their cargo by ocean freight.”
