A word from GPLN: Newsletter Issue 104 / May-June 2025
Dear Reader,
Good news for our GPLN members in and around UK, as Ireland’s vast maritime territory is getting ready for greater offshore renewable development, according to the government Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP). This initiative supports Ireland’s ambitious target of delivering 20 GW of offshore renewable capacity by 2040. Set for completion by the end of 2027, it will also enable more strategic, long-term planning for the sector. DMAP will help surrounding ports prepare for the offshore energy boom by guiding infrastructure investments needed to support large-scale projects. Ireland’s offshore resources are expected to attract significant interest from the renewables sector; particularly in light of momentum seen just across the water. In the English section of the Celtic Sea, the Crown Estate is progressing with the allocation of three floating wind farm sites, with a combined potential output of 4.5 GW, highlighting the region’s suitability for offshore development.
As announced earlier, we will hold our 21st Annual General Meeting from June 12-14, 2026 at the Hilton Hotel in Rotterdam, just ahead of Breakbulk Europe in Rotterdam which is scheduled from June 16-18, 2026, that delegates can combine both events which is not only time but also cost saving. Due to this fact we are expecting again a high attendance of around 200 delegates which will be a great opportunity for networking.
More details and delegate registration (including early bird promotion!) for active GPLN members are now available on our dedicated website: https://gpln.net/agm-2026/

Polaris delivers multiple shipments for Massawa Airport Project
Polaris Projects, the specialized project logistics division of Polaris Shipping Agencies LLC, a GPLN member from UAE, has successfully executed a series of complex, cross-trade multimodal shipments for the Massawa Airport Project in Eritrea. The shipments, originating from multiple global locations, were precisely coordinated to ensure timely arrival in Massawa.

One of the major challenges in this project was the transportation of RO-RO units measuring up to 14.00 x 3.80 x 3.60 meters (L x W x H) and weighing up to 65 metric tons, along with approximately 35 pieces of special equipment. The limited availability of regular liner sailings to Eritrean ports; particularly for out-of-gauge and heavy cargo; necessitated meticulous planning and execution. Fortunately, containerized accessories faced fewer shipping restrictions and were handled more easily. Despite these logistical complexities, Polaris Projects completed the multimodal deliveries efficiently and on schedule, meeting the high expectations of all stakeholders involved.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our partners and stakeholders for their unwavering support in bringing this project to a successful conclusion.

Sea Cargo Logistics apply a steady flow of precision for the Energy Industry
Some shipments aren’t just heavy in tons; they carry the weight of responsibility. In the oil and gas sector, every component is part of a system that simply can’t afford to stop. Such is the case with this ongoing Project of GPLN member Sea Cargo Logistics from Mexico: over 150 modules of offshore hydrocarbon marine hoses, were shipped from Japan to Mexico. Each unit measured more than 10 meters in length, and had a weight of 12 metric tons, which demanded a meticulous handling at every stage.
The mission: to coordinate the entire port-side operation in Mexico; including customs release, unstuffing of containers, marine surveying, storage at a designated warehouse, and final delivery to three operational sites belonging to a major oil company.
From the arrival in Manzanillo to the last-mile delivery, our project cargo team executed every detail with surgical precision: connecting people, processes, and timing. This project wasn’t measured only in cubic meters; over 8,500, and in weight more than 1,800 tons; but the trust placed in us to support one of the most critical sectors in Latin America.
This wasn’t just about moving modules. It was about keeping energy flowing, ensuring the chain holds, and delivering with precision when failure is not an option. At SCL, that’s not the exception; it’s the standard.

GPLN Members Punto System and MESCO move an industrial plantGPLN member Punto System from Italy specializes in transforming complex logistics into smooth operations. One of most recent accomplishments; carried out in close collaboration with GPLN partner Marine & Engineering Services Co. (MESCO) from Egypt; is a prime example of this commitment. The project involved the international transportation of an industrial plant from Italy to Egypt, meticulously packed into oversized wooden crates. Due to their exceptional dimensions, the cargo required tailored planning and a part charter vessel to ensure safe and timely loading and delivery. Total volume: 800 mc / Total GW: 290 t Among the various challenges encountered, the pre-carriage to port stood out as the most critical. Some crates reached a height of 480 cm, making standard road transportation unfeasible. Punto System’s team engineered a customized routing and handling solution that ensured full compliance with road transport regulations, despite challenges like the closure of a bridge, and minimized risk and delay. |

By coordinating closely with local authorities, escort services, and port operators, the cargo successfully moved to port and completed the shipment without compromise on safety or efficiency.
MESCO from their side facilitated the berthing of the vessel in Alexandria Dekheila Port, Discharging of the Cargo from the vessel, Warehousing the Cargo & Local Transportation to final Discharge place. With its expertise & various Logistics tools in handling Project Cargo MESCO maintained smooth operations, high standard of service & safe procedures.
This project reflects strength in handling out-of-gauge cargo, ability to solve route planning constraints, and deep-rooted expertise in managing door-to-port logistics for heavy and oversized equipment. No cargo is too complex; only challenges to be solved.
