A word from GPLN: Newsletter Issue 110 / May-June 2026
Dear Reader,
With Breakbulk Europe having concluded in Rotterdam last month, developments beyond the exhibition halls are likely to be closely watched by the project logistics and heavy lift shipping sector. Many of the conversations among our GPLN members at our GPLN Booth during Breakbulk Europe centred on uncertainty and resilience. The question now is whether the agreement marks a genuine turning point or simply a temporary pause in tensions.
The fragile ceasefire in the Middle East was ruptured recently when the USA accused Iran of targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The renewed exchange of strikes has extinguished hopes that traffic through the strategically vital waterway could meaningfully resume in the near term.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has also condemned new attacks on commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, warning that seafarers are again being placed in direct danger as regional tensions continue to disrupt one of the world’s most important shipping lanes. The warning comes as hundreds of ships remain unable to leave the Persian Gulf safely. According to the IMO, around 6,000 seafarers are still stranded on board vessels in the region since the start of the Middle East conflict.
Our 21st Annual General Meeting, which took place from June 12-14, 2026 at the Hilton Hotel in Rotterdam, was a great success, as a multitude of GPLN members efficiently built and maintained professional relationships in the most lasting manner during in-person meetings with fellow GPLN members, as well as during our welcome reception, BBQ-dinner and other social events.
After this event, GPLN was exhibiting from June 14-16, 2026 with a large stand at Breakbulk Europe in Rotterdam, together with 10 GPLN member companies who were sharing our GPLN booth: Conti-Trans/Germany, Corwin Int’l Logistics (Shenzhen)/China, DAS Freight Solutions/Russia & Uzbekistan, Falcon International/Canada & USA, Herfurth Logistics/Belgium & Netherlands, ITM Projects/Mexico, Navigators Shipping And Logistica/UAE, NMT Logistics/Turkey & UK, Oceanic Logistics/Cyprus and Zenith International Freight/UK.
The next upcoming logistics exhibition with a GPLN Booth will take place from November 18-19, 2026 at Breakbulk Asia at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore. GPLN members who wish to share our booth should contact us right away for more details and prices as only a few spots are available.
Best regards,
Your GPLN Team
Navigators move Heavy Load Gas Spheres

GPLN member Navigators from Lebanon arranged and managed the loading, lashing, securing the cargo on flat rack containers, customs clearance, port handling, and transportation of 2 LNPG Spheres from Beirut City limits, Lebanon, to Aqaba Port, Jordan.
Project: Shipping and transport of 2 dismantled Heavy Load Gas Spheres consisting of 50 x 40’ Flat Rack and 13 Open top containers loaded in 7 days
Measured 10.36 meters in length, 3.11 meters in width, and 3.88 meters in height each unit.
When a gas Sphere in need of being transported from one country to another, the challenge was clear: transport of 1240-ton of Sphere shells, related columns and accessories from an inland remote site to the port – all without a single delay.
The journey began with meticulous planning. Engineers mapped every route, checking bridge capacities and bridge heights, road widths, and turning radius. Specialized hydraulic trailers were brought in, capable of distributing the weight evenly to protect both the cargo and the infrastructure. At the loading site, precision lifting was key. Giant cranes, each with a lifting capacity exceeding 300 tons, hoisted the shells onto its cradle. Every movement was slow and deliberate, with spotters guiding operators to avoid even the smallest misalignment.
The convoy moved at a careful pace, often late afternoon and at night to minimize traffic disruption. Safety officer escorts cleared intersections. Upon arrival at the port, the cargo was transferred to the specific terminal to be loaded onto a heavy-lift vessel equipped with dynamic positioning systems, ensuring stability during loading in choppy waters. The ship’s crew secured the components with custom-fabricated sea fastenings, ready for the ocean voyage.
In the end, the project was a seamless blend of engineering, coordination, and precision timing – a testament to how complex heavy-load shipping can be transformed into a smooth, safe, and successful operation.
Even though with the difficult time and the unrest situation that the country was going thru, the war was at its peak and Navigators team was focused on the project completion.
Proper planning with different stages and a full-fledged team coordinating the same, from the back office, transport department, documentation department, customs clearance department, site operation team, surveyor checking every container, site safety officer, project director, meeting every morning on daily basis from day one until project completion day.

GPLN member Falcon International from Canada Moving Wind Turbine Components Across North America Without Missing a Deadline:
A leading Chinese transportation company partnered with Falcon International to coordinate the transportation of 31 oversized wind turbine component bundles from Dalian, China, to Michigan, USA.
The project required far more than simply arranging ocean freight. Once the cargo arrived in New York, Falcon had a narrow delivery window to unload, transload, and coordinate oversized trucking while avoiding costly detention charges. Through careful planning and experienced project management, every component was delivered safely, on schedule, and exactly according to the consignee’s requested delivery sequence.
The Story of a Trusted Project Logistics Partnership:
The customer specializes in large-scale transportation projects and regularly manages oversized industrial cargo worldwide. For this shipment, they required a logistics partner capable of coordinating both international ocean transportation and complex inland delivery in the United States.
Rather than searching for the lowest-cost provider, the customer prioritized proven execution. The shipment involved multiple oversized units, tight delivery requirements, and highly coordinated handling at the Port of New York, conditions where experience makes all the difference.
Falcon was recommended by another international logistics partner following similar successful project cargo operations, giving the customer confidence that the shipment would be managed correctly from beginning to end.
The Challenges Faced & Overcame:
Although the ocean voyage itself was straightforward, the real complexity began once the cargo reached New York.
Eight flat rack containers carrying 31 oversized wind turbine component bundles had to be discharged, transloaded, and dispatched within an extremely limited timeframe. Any delay would have resulted in expensive detention charges while also disrupting the consignee’s construction schedule.
Handling multiple oversized flat racks simultaneously at one of North America’s busiest ports is a significant logistical challenge. Every movement required careful coordination between the terminal, trucking companies, lifting equipment, and the final delivery schedule.
Falcon’s team also identified opportunities to improve transportation efficiency. Through optimized load planning, the original trucking requirement was reduced from 20 truck movements to only 16, lowering transportation costs without compromising safety or delivery timelines. Most importantly, every delivery had to arrive during normal business hours and in the exact sequence requested by the consignee.
How Falcon Responded:
From the beginning, Falcon developed a detailed execution plan covering every phase of the project. Our project cargo team coordinated closely with ocean carriers, terminal operators, trucking partners, and the consignee to ensure equipment availability and minimize idle time throughout the operation. Every stage of the transloading process was scheduled in advance, allowing all eight flat racks to be handled within just two days while completely avoiding detention charges.
Throughout execution, continuous communication between all parties allowed the team to respond quickly to operational requirements without disrupting the delivery schedule.
By optimizing truck utilization and carefully sequencing deliveries, Falcon reduced the total number of trucks required while maintaining full compliance with oversized transportation regulations and ensuring every component arrived safely.
The operation demonstrated the value of proactive planning, flexibility, and precise project coordination qualities that define successful heavy-lift logistics.
