Dear Reader,
Our 18th GPLN AGM in Rotterdam in June 2023 was a great success with a new record attendance of over 210 GPLN delegates. Members from around 70 different countries came together during meetings and social events to discuss past, current and future business, exchange sales leads and develop business within the GPLN project network.
Due to the winning combination of our conference with Breakbulk Europe we will hold our next AGM from May 18-20, 2024 again in The Netherlands, followed by our renown Heavy Transport and Lifting Seminar on May 21, 2024. But this time we have selected the seaside city of The Hague (Den Haag) where both GPLN events will take place. Please refer for more details to our dedicated websites.
As part of this year’s conference, GPLN held also a photo competition among members. Global Shipping Services handles a sheer size piece
GPLN member Global Shipping Services from Houston/USA recently handled the movement of a piece measuring 36’6” L x 34’6” W x 8’ H = 76,800 lbs. from Houston, TX to Houma, LA.
This was the first unit of this size to be manufactured, and the sheer size of the piece made moving this over the road very tricky! It took months of planning and it all came down to the wire at the end.
The overall distance from the shipper’s facility to the port of loading was only roughly 18 miles (29 km), but it took 4 police escorts and some very careful route planning to get this piece over the road safely. We were faced with some very tricky routing due to the width, and mother nature was also not wanting to assist as it poured down rain and stormed the entire week of the move, so it added to even more delays and frustration which was out of our control.
Once the cargo arrived at the port and was staged for loading out, everything from then on was smooth sailing. The actual load out of the barge went very fast and smoothly and was completed in a matter of hours. She sailed in the early morning hours via barge for its 3-day journey to the destination where it was offloaded with ease.
Total Movements delivers HDT Reactors
GPLN member Total Movements from India is proud to have added another feather in its cap with the successful factory-to-foundation multi-modal transportation of 2 nos. heavylift HDT reactors critical for the IOCL Barauni Refinery Expansion Project in India.
They delivered safely and timely these 2 nos. HDT reactors (32 meters long / 360 MT weight each) from suppliers works on the West Coast of India to the delivery site in Bihar through 4 different modes of transport, i.e., road, sea, river and road, covering more than 5,000 km. This complex move was fraught with challenges at all through its movement. Just to name a few:
1. Timely deployment of Heavylift barges and Heavy lift vessel.
2. Double banking operation at both Mumbai and Kolkata Ports.
3. Waterway movement in the Ganges River.
4. Jetty and approach road construction.
5. Permissions from multiple agencies at multiple locations and levels.
Their team worked diligently and patiently conquering every challenge that came on its way. Right from the planning of this critical movement to its execution, their team worked closely with all the stakeholders involved to ensure the safe and timely delivery of this cargo. The entire team felt truly motivated to get generous words of appreciation from the customers for this performance. 3PL Group handles various project moves
GPLN member 3PL Group arranged recently a multimodal transportation of a filter via the port of Esbjerg in Denmark and port of Antwerp in Belgium.
The oversized filter consisted of 2 big items with a wide of 4.6 m and height of 4.5m, plus parts. They used two cranes for the loading and obtained also permits for oversized trucks, pilot cars, as well as route analysis. etc.
They used 2 trucks with lowbed trailers on the road in Denmark with following total dimensions and weight of the cargo: 16.5m x 4.5m x 4m / 30 tons and 22m x 4.6m x 4.95m / 50 tons.
In another shipment 3PL Poland handled a project from Ukraine, consisting of an oversized gas engine turbine for an oil rig from Ukraine to Dalian, China, via the port of Gdansk, Poland. 3PL received the oversized cargo from a Ukrainian hauler and arranged loading and securing in a warehouse near Gdansk area port with their long-term supplier.
Dimensions of the biggest items: 7.28m x 2.72m x 3m and 17,900 kgs. Smaller items 2.60m x1.56m x 1.19 and 680 kgs.
Universal manage difficult cross boarder heavy duty transport
In March and April, GPLN member Universal Transport took over the delivery of three distillation towers for a depropylenizer plant from the Czech Republic via Slovakia to Hungary. The largest tower of the plant, which is used for the petrochemical industry, was provided in three parts, five parts in total had dimensions of up to 45 meters in length l and individual weights of up to 123.5 tons. The transport to the refinery in Tiszaujvaros (Neustadt an der Theiss) around 800 km away, was carried out with a trailer combination to ensure narrow passages and curves could be mastered from the Czech mountains to the banks of the Tisza. To support the heavy freight transport, a second truck unit was used at some points, which could push the transport from behind. Precise and detailed planning was necessary for this transport, which our team worked on for over three months. In the run up, detailed bridge statics and deformation measurements were carried out along the planned route. Streets were widened, curbs and road islands were covered. In addition, some other traffic control measurements were necessary too. For example, traffic signs, lamps and traffic lights had to be removed at a short notice to ensure the safe passage of the freight.
However, the challenge was not only due to the dimensions of the freight but also the required route. The starting point was the production site for the plant components, which is located at an altitude of 440 metres in the Jesenky Mountains, also known as the Hruby Jesenik in Czech. From here, the route led even higher into the skiing area of Cervenohorske Sedlo at 1010 metres. This altitude had a huge impact on the transport due to the steep ascent and descent to the valley, the associated tight bends in the serpentines and the unpredictable weather presented the team with numerous challenges. Thanks to years of experience and expertise of our team, the transport was successfully completed by our 8 drivers and a large number of coordinators within 5 days.
Greenshields move ship’s equipment, gas and hazardous items
GPLN member Greenshields Project Cargo from Italy recently achieved a contract of logistics to handle, move and clear helium and oxygen from several producers and depots placed in Italy, UK, and Malta to supply vessels, barges, and offshore platforms in the Mediterranean. The gas was transported by ADR trucks/trailers to the ports whereas the vessels were berthed in order to be used locally and/or moved offshores for distribution. Once the gas bottles had been emptied, they were discharged from the vessels and loaded onto trucks/trailers for movements to the sites of depots and producers in order to be filled and used again. Such kind of ships equipment’s are usually arrange monthly and the quantities are between 120-160 tons each time.
Polaris Shipping deliver heavy shredder
GPLN member Polaris Shipping Agency LLC, from United Arab Emirates is extremely happy to report the completion of their latest project, involving delivery of Lynxs heavy shredder, complete with motor driven machine, dismantled from the current location in United Arab Emirates to their new factory premises located approximately 55 kms from Port of Houston, United States of America.
The experienced Polaris Project team was awarded the entire relocation project of this shredder. Polaris scope covered identifying each item against the material list prepared by OEM engineers, suitably dismantling of OOG packages, industrial packaging for safe transportation, marking individual items, pre-carriage operation and freight up to receiver’s door.
The project which had a strict delivery deadline was shipped with a base machine of 54 MT as breakbulk on a container vessel and various packages of approx. 1980 freight tons were stuffed and lashed suitably in assortments of 40’ High Cubes, Open Tops and Flat Racks, to ensure that the freight packages were within their valuable client’s budget, but also not compromising on the delivery schedule. Since the OEM engineers at the destination need to have the items delivered to receivers’ site on pre-advised sequence, Polaris Team ensured to have a shipping plan in line with the same, so that no delays for the shredder erection process happened.

KSP Shipping handle Helicopter Project
GPLN member KSP Shipping & Logistics from Nigeria handled recently a helicopter project from Lagos port, Nigeria, to Rio de Janeiro port in Brazil.
It was a remarkable shipment with many operational stages, ranging from dismantling, wrapping, packaging of parts in wooden boxes, loading equipment rental, stuffing, lashing, security and delivery into the seaport terminal from the airport facility of the shipper.
Many obstacles surmounted by KSP’s operations team from customs clearance, bond/TIP revalidation, customs enforcement and other government agencies releases for effective loading on to a Mafi via a Ro-Ro vessel. KSP Shipping are very elated and ready to take up more challenges in the near future.

Fleet Line Shipping handle heavy duty dump trucks
Our GPLN member from UAE, Fleet Line Shipping (FLS), accomplished recently another end-to-end logistics movement. They loaded 20 Fire Trucks onto a Ro-Ro ship and another 15 heavy-duty dump trucks were securely placed on Flat Rack containers, sailing to different destinations.
Their dedicated team worked 24/7 to ensure these specialized vehicles’ safe and efficient loading, utilizing cutting-edge equipment and adhering to stringent safety protocols.
Shodesh Shipping handle cargo for Nuclear Power Plant
GPLN member Shodesh Shipping & Logistic Company from Bangladesh have played a significant role as a freight forwarding and logistics agent since the beginning of the building of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP, the country’s first nuclear power plant. They have recently successfully handled another break bulk vessel (MV Dragonball) that came at Chittagong seaport from St. Petersburg, Russia, carrying 2,066 MT (2,092 packages) bulk cargo for the construction of RNPP. The consignee
was Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and JSC Atomstroyexport, the main contractor of RNPP.
Muhammad Amin Muhammad Qaseem deliver transformer
GPLN member M/s M. Amin M. Qaseem (Pvt) Ltd. (MAMQ) from Pakistan handled and delivered 2 units of Siemens Auto-Transformers from Karachi Port to 220KV NTDC Bannu Grid Station Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Northern Pakistan (K.P.K.), weighing 120 tons each, and with dimensions of 9.35*3.76*4.21 meters, on to its Goldhofer’s Multi-Modular Hydraulic Trailers in safe and sound manner. Both Auto Transformers Main-Bodies were manually unloaded by jacking & rigging method by our expert 3rd party certified rigging team. The whole rigging operation was successfully executed with zero-error goal achievement throughout all the process. The services included under-hook receiving of Siemens Auto-Transformers, customs clearance consultancy at Karachi port, Transportation from Karachi Port to NTDC Bannu Grid Station and Manual unloading in open-space.
MAMQ is glad for its achievement of delivering the heavy-lift cargo to the rough terrains of Pakistan’s Northern Region, which is considered as the most treacherous route in Pakistan.
