Dear Reader,

Today we celebrate a significant milestone: the 100th edition of our GPLN Newsletter! It has been an incredible journey since the first issue in September/October 2006 (see front page below) and we are thrilled to have you all along with us. This significant milestone could only be achieved thanks to our GPLN members commitment who regularly send us their pictures and success stories of big moves.

As announced earlier our next year’s GPLN Annual General Meeting will take place on our home turf in Bangkok, Thailand, from February 14-16, 2025. Many GPLN delegates already registered for this conference and we are looking forward to a successful meeting. PROTRANSER handles various challenging projects

GPLN member Protranser from China delivered recently a vacuum tower from Tianjin to Iraq. The weight and dimension of it was 95 tons, 41m*4.75m*4.6m (L*W*H). Considering the height limitation on the road, base brackets had to be removed during truck transportation from the factory to Tianjin port. Furthermore, the cargo was not allowed to be discharged at the port for base brackets installation work since it was overweight and required to be loaded directly onto a vessel. Protranser’s team solved the problem by finding a suitable operation area outside of the port, mobilizing two auto cranes and one forklift. Finally, the cargo was delivered to Tianjin port on time. Working scope included customs clearance and port service in Tianjin port.

Protranser’s team also delivered a lot of Air Cooler equipment from Shanghai to Iraq. The total volume was 35 pieces /327670 kgs /1816 CBM. The heaviest unit was 45 tons with a dimension of 14*4.8*4m, and there were 6 of them. Working scope included port service, chartering service of breakbulk vessel and survey report of loading operation.

In another big move Protranser delivered 8 sets of transformers from China to Guyana by two lots. For the first lot, 3 sets of them were shipped from Taicang port with a weight of the main body of 129 tons. For the second lot, 5 sets of them were shipped from Shanghai port, and the weight of the main body ranged from 30 tons to 66 tons each. Working scope included pick up service from factory in Wuhan and customs clearance service.

Finally, Protranser delivered a harvester, imported from USA, to Kazakhstan by entrepot trade through China. The dimension and weight of the cargo was 10*3.75*3.5m and 18 tons. Firstly, the cargo entered Shanghai Free Trade Zone, then was delivered to Horgos Free Trade Zone in Xinjiang province and finally was moved by truck transportation to the destination in Kazakhstan. The working process of entrepot trade through China was complicated, especially the customs clearance process and in order to meet the requirement of the height limitation on the road, we removed the wheels of the harvester. With our professional handling and rich experience, the cargo was delivered to jobsite safely and on time.

Zenith handle large freight project

GPLN member Zenith International Freight from UK was managing a large freight project for their client. The largest shipment of the project consisted of 2 x Super Steam Heaters and required a charter vessel. Each unit had a weight of 46,500.00 kgs and dimension of length 7.07m x width 4.56m x height 4.95m

TSL demonstrate its expertise for breakbulk cargo

GPLN member TSL Australia demonstrated its expertise in handling complex breakbulk cargo with the successful transportation of oversized timber arches for Melbourne’s tunnel project. The shipment, originating from Auckland and destined for Melbourne, was arranged as a part-charter with the specialized breakbulk carrier, Spliethoff. The cargo included timber arches, most of which exceeded 20 meters in length, with some reaching up to 29 meters long and more than 6 meters wide. Given the considerable dimensions of the shipment, the delivery to the port was carefully coordinated over a span of three days to ensure seamless handling. On September 10th, the cargo was efficiently loaded onto the vessel.

Furthermore, TSL Australia, in collaboration with GPLN member D.W International Inc. from Korea successfully managed the shipment of a 140-ton Road Header and its parts from Port Kembla to Pyeongtaek in Korea. The equipment was carefully heat-wrapped and loaded onto MAFI trailers as breakbulk cargo, then shipped on a RORO vessel. With only four days to meet the vessel’s cutoff, TSL Australia efficiently organized every detail, ensuring the shipment was completed on time and handled with the utmost care. This operation highlights our ability to deliver high-quality logistics solutions, even within tight deadlines.

FLS achieve largest Brealkbulk Haul in a Container Ship

Dubai-based GPLN member Fleet Line Shipping (FLS) has successfully loaded 15 prefabricated blast-resistant modules from Jebel Ali onto a Hapag vessel, the Haiphong Express, for an oil and gas refinery in Northern Europe.

Each module, measuring 13.8m L x 4.25m W x 3.70m H and weighing 23 tons (3255 CBM), was efficiently loaded as a breakbulk on a mammoth 45×40’ Flat Rack bed in four bays of the said vessel. FLS was also responsible for on-board lashing and securing, which was invaluable to this operation.

MAMQ arrange Self-Driven Movement of 31 Dump Trucks

GPLN member M/s Muhammad Amin Muhammad Qaseem (Pvt) Ltd. (MAMQ) from Pakistan has in June 2024 again handled and delivered a large fleet of 31 Dump-Trucks in shape of a swift caravan from Karachi Port to 4,320 MW Dasu Hydro Power Project Site in Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by self-driving the whole fleet across 1,725 KM distance comprising of highlands, most rugged & treacherous terrains of Pakistan, with utmost safety.

Ever-changing weather, torrential rainfall, rocky-tracks, hill-slides, narrow & sharp curves and steep gradients proved the task as hectic as it could be, yet the sheer will and vigorous efforts of MAMQ technical manpower drove the dump-trucks fleet to its destination, successfully.

3P Logistic handle oversized cargo delivery to UAE

GPLN member 3P Logistics Industrial Projects from Scandinavia recently managed the transport of oversized offshore equipment from the Netherlands to the United Arab Emirates via Belgium. The shipment process began with the transportation of the 14.45-m-long, 19-tonne bridge from the Netherlands to the port of Antwerp via lowbed semi-trailer.

“The cargo is the gangway, Telescopic access bridges for safe and easy transfer of personnel and cargo to and from offshore structures. It is suitable for a variety of vessels and operational situations,” said Ilya Goncharov, global project manager at 3P Logistics Industrial Projects. 3P Logistics handled all operations at the port, including documentation, customs clearance, loading onto a Mafi trailer, and securing and covering the cargo for its voyage. The equipment was then transported to Jebel Ali Port in the UAE using ro-ro shipping. Ilya Goncharov also added that the company has reliable partners and suppliers across Benelux, allowing it to operate efficiently in the region.

EGL transport heavy boilers to the SOPC facility

GPLN member Egyptian Global Logistics (EGL) from Egypt recently handled the inland transportation of boilers.
The Suez Oil Processing Company (SOPC) has successfully received two essential boilers, a key component for the ongoing Cocker Complex Rehabilitation project. These boilers were supplied by the renowned Italian engineering firm

Under the supervision of the Engineering and Petroleum Projects Company (ENPPI), the Cocker Complex Rehabilitation project aims to modernize and improve the complex’s operational efficiency. The timely delivery of these boilers represents a significant milestone in the project’s execution.

The boilers were shipped to Adabiyah, Egypt, arriving on September 6, 2024. EGL largest logistics service provider in Egypt, has played a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient inland transportation of the boilers to the SOPC facility. Each boiler, measuring 9.80 x 10.14 x 5.97 meters and weighing 145 tons, is a vital piece of equipment that will contribute to the complex’s energy generation and process operations.

The successful arrival of these boilers highlights SOPC’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and ensuring long-term sustainability. The company remains focused on efficiently executing the Cocker Complex Rehabilitation project, contributing to Egypt’s energy sector and economic growth.

Polaris Projects Completes Multiple Time-Bound Multimodal Shipments

GPLN member Polaris Projects, the project division of Polaris Shipping Agencies LLC, UAE, successfully completed several time-sensitive multimodal shipments in August 2024.

Polaris was nominated by our overseas partners to manage the shipment of a consignment of used construction equipment from Tianjin, China, for door delivery to our regular receivers in Jebel Ali Free Zone. The total consignment, approximately 1,490 CBM/254 tons, was destined for an industrial auction in Jebel Ali and was shipped on a part-charter basis from Port Tianjin to Port Jebel Ali, using a last-in/first-out stowage arrangement. The cargo was promptly customs cleared and delivered to the receivers, successfully meeting the strict auction deadline.

In addition, Polaris Projects was awarded a cross-trade project involving the shipment of Sany hydraulic excavators from the UAE to Congo, totalling around 38 units. As the receiver’s site requires only 2 to 4 units per delivery, Polaris devised a plan to ship the units to Dar es Salaam via RORO service, where they will be stored at our nominated facility and subsequently delivered to the receiver as required. The first trial shipment of two units was successfully completed, having arrived at Port Dar es Salaam, and is currently being transported to the receiver’s site. The remaining units will be shipped in multiple batches to meet the receiver’s three-month delivery schedule.

Furthermore, Polaris was awarded a project to ship 11.8-meter-long pipes in 40’ high-cube containers to Azerbaijan. The first batch, consisting of approximately 30 x 40’ high cubes, was shipped to Poti, Georgia, from where it will be transported by truck. Alongside providing competitive ocean freight solutions, Polaris ensured that containers were carefully stuffed following strict safety and handling procedures, as agreed with the client, to accommodate the long multimodal transport route to the destination.

Mainstream Global Transport Windmill Blades

Mainstream Global, a GPLN member from New Zealand, recently completed a very interesting project – Transporting windmill blades from China to New Zealand successfully. The scope required a charter vessel in order to meet the required deadlines for customer. Our trusted GPLN China partner, Excellent (Shanghai) Shipping Agency assisted us for this specific project.

CETA Logistics & Projects handle Generator Sets for a Power Plant

GPLN member CETA Logistics & Projects from Turkey completed the transportation for various of DCCP Cement Factory (6000 tpd Project).
They handled their 10th vessel with 885 trucks loads upto now for mentioned project and additionally 2 lots of Generator Sets of project for DCCP Cement Plant in Northern Iraq.

Total 1.294,379 cbm and 882 tons of Generators have been handled from Iskenderun to Dabin Cement jobsite, 40 km far away from Erbil city.

The heaviest piece of the project, a generator weighing 145 tons and 5.21m in height, was delivered safely from Turkey to Iraq, a distance of more than 1,200 km. They completed all the passes on the route safely, including a 5 cm clearance with some cement bridges.

CETA completed onec more a very special size of transportation to the Northern part of Iraq with their experienced teams.

Brelog and 3P Logistics coordinate together a shipment

GPLN members Brelog GmbH, Germany and 3P Logistics, Scandinavia, successfully completed the shipment of wind turbines parts from Germany and Lithuania to Australia.

The cargo consists of Wind Turbine spare parts: Towers Parts and Foundation Rings, about 300 metric tons in total. The items were collected from the port of Rostock, Germany to the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, by a coaster vessel.

3P Logistics was also responsible for operations such as loading, unloading, lashing, unlashing, customs and port handling, etc. Then in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, all wind turbines parts were loaded onto an ocean vessel to Australia.

The used wind turbine market is very huge and interesting in 2024!

The market of used wind turbines is a very large, it is a huge market in 2024: logistics, storage, repair, etc., and 3P Logistics continue to provide high-quality services for their customers around the world. Headseaway is shipping Polishing Machinery

GPLN member Headseaway from China conducted at the beginning of October 2024 a smooth project. This shipment was arranged from Shanghai to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam with the vessel “AN HAI CONFIDENCE//V105175”. The cargo was consisting of 5 units with a weight from 37 MT up to 42 MT, plus 5 packages 618 W/M. The equipment is used in ceramic- making industries. Headseaway has been carrying ceramic machinery items since over 16 years and is therefore very familiar with all the procedure of the whole production lines, ranging in weight from 40MT up to 300 MT per unit.

Go Gauge Logistics completes another Landmark Project

As a valued member of GPLN, Go Gauge Logistics Pvt Ltd from India has successfully delivered three colossal transformers, each weighing 92,000 kg and measuring 7.2 x 2.6 x 4.15 meters, transported from Mumbai to Apapa. This project demanded careful planning and specialized handling due to the non-stackable nature of the cargo, ensuring the highest standards of care and efficiency.

This accomplishment highlights “Go Gauge Logistics” expertise in managing oversized shipments and reinforces its reputation as a trusted provider in handling industrial machinery and equipment.

ILA strike mitigation plan success for Transatlantic Shipment

GPLN member Green Worldwide Shipping (Green) from USA developed and executed a last-minute project cargo shipping mitigation plan to ensure two (2) industrial beverages can manufacturing presses successfully departed the U.S. before the International Longshoreman’s Association strike shuttered all U.S. East Coast ports.

A global beverage bottling company ordered the manufacturing presses for delivery in October 2024. Originally scheduled to move as a flat rack (FR) shipment, Green realized that converting the commodity from FR to roll-on, roll-off (RORO) would ensure the presses departed U.S. ports more quickly due to the Port of Baltimore’s aggressive RORO pre-strike mitigation schedule.

Green moved the two presses to a machine shop where the presses were repackaged for RORO transport. Once safely tied down to the flatbed heavy haul trailer, the two units returned to the Port of Baltimore and booked for the next Transatlantic RORO vessel. The quick thinking of Green’s project team saved the shipper and consignee from delays of an ILA strike that was anticipated to last several weeks or more.

MFC ship Mobile Cranes

The MFC Extreme Project team, a GPLN member from UAE, recently undertook the shipment and clearance of a fleet of 16 Fifty Tons mobile cranes from China to Jebel Ali with final delivery to Abu Dhabi for a new construction project.

Transmaritim ships Wheel Loaders

GPLN member transmaritim from Germany handled recently a project. The wheel loaders, measuring 9.16m x 3m x 3.59m, had to be transported from Dalian in China to Chennai in India. We decided to transport them on flats instead of break bulk by charter. It was a more cost-effective alternative and still offered a safe route for the freight.
